*** Usage Overview ***

YOU MUST HAVE MS OUTLOOK 2000 OR XP INSTALLED TO USE THIS PROGRAM!

The Outlook Journal is great for time management because many things can be recorded automatically, the entries can be tied to tasks or appointments elsewhere in Outlook, and using Chapura PocketJournal (www.chapura.com), you can have a portable version on your PalmOS device for recording time spent outside the office.

JournalMetrics is a simple yet useful application that generates useful reports from Journal Entries in Microsoft Outlook. This allows you to easily generate time reports and itemized timesheets based on how your time is recorded in the Journal.

*** Tracking your time ***

Start by creating tasks. The list of items in the pull down menu corresponds to active tasks in your tasks list. Tracking time is simple: select a task and click start to create a journal entry and start the timer on that entry. Clicking start (unless the last JournalMetric event is a start) will create a 0 duration "Start Work" entry.

During work, changing tasks will create a new entry and begin the timer on it. Clicking pause will stop the timer on the active task, and clicing stop will stop the timer and create a "Stop Work" event.

Click "Last" to start a new event with the same task as the last event in the Journal.

To create a different event like a phone call or meeting, just click Pause in JournalMetrics, work with your other events from outlook then start a new task when ready.

*** Reports ***

Click the R button to opent he reports controls.

Click the "..." button next to the start and end date to filter the report by date, or enter a string into the Category box to filter on category, or any combination thereof.

Press "Generate report" for a text based report of time spent, or "Generate CSV" for a csv file with Dates as the columns and Categories as the rows. There will be a column for each day in the range specified, and a row for each category represented in the aggregate.
